Heaven & Earth Day

On Saturday, Westminster streets were filled with tens of thousands of people celebrating Earth Day and using their collective power to demand an end to the fossil fuel era and that the UK Government create emergency citizens' assemblies!
This was part of 4 days of protest and peaceful disruption in central London which included numerous prayer and worship gatherings. Christian Climate Action and XR Buddhists hosted a Faith Hub with singing, prayer flag making, poetry, prayers and a play area.
Extinction Rebellion Birmingham set up outside the Department for Leveling up, housing and communities talking about how we need to upgrade our old housing and building stock. John Christophers of Zero Carbon House, Balsall Heath and Immy Kaur of Co - Founder and Director of CIVIC SQUARE both spoke.
There was a “No Faith in Fossil Fuels” service led by Tearfund, Christian Aid, CAFOD and Green Christian with music from the Salvation Army and Engage Worship and a service led by Black Majority Churches, by young people, Catholic Mass and Anglican Communion and Franciscan prayer walks.
The Big Biodiversity March was led by XR Rhythms, with periods of silence, birdsong and sounds of nature along the way!
Many thousand peace protestors equipped themselves with placards and artwork to honour our natural world and endangered species.
There was plenty of noise and animal costumes.
